Initially, I just wanted to write about politics - to be a “Common Folk Guru,” of sorts. Writing had always been a dream of mine. Maybe my stories miraculously would be discovered and even syndicated, if published on the web. So, I created a small site and wrote.
I soon ran out of space and decided to create a real web site. I knew little about building or maintaining a site. There are programs that you can buy and have a site up in a day. They're called WYSIWYG - what you see is what you get.
In word-processing or desktop publishing, the screen displays text and images exactly as it will be printed - that’s WYSIWYG. And, I used it to create much of this site.
But, maintaining a web site is another story and you need to be more computer literate. When I began, CGI, CSS, JAVA, HMTL, MySql (pronounced "My Ess Cue El"), PHP and XHTML were just letters in the alphabet.
In point of fact, they are various computer languages, platforms and databases used by computers and servers that host networks and web sites (a layperson's definition).
So, I stop writing and began to learn, the old-fashion way, by trial and error. Thus, these are the first words I have written in many month’s. Now, I’m not sure if I should call myself a writer or a “Webmaster.”
As my knowledge grew, so did my goals. I wanted to reach a larger audience and afford some other would-be political writers, a web site where they could publish their work. I believed this was essential.
After all, “Uniting America” is our byline. When your goal is unity, it's imperative to have more than one person’s opinion. This is a key concept of Conservative Centrism which relies on all political ideologies (left and right).
The Founding Fathers knew our republic could not survive without a free press. Personally, I think the press has become to "chummy" with politicians, choosing sides and loosing objectivity.
But, many journalists have spent lifetimes trying to educate Americans. Yet, when I read the news, I question how many of us are “tuning in.” The discussion of politics is difficult when so many lack a basic knowledge of US and world history and current events.
I knew we needed a means to monitor the news. This was about the time when I also discovered news feeds (like the CNNfeed scrolling above) and the world of Bloggers.
I knew instantly this was the means to reach a larger audience and with some work, I was able to add a Blog to the site.
It’s a way for us “common folk,” to be heard. And, via the feeds and other resources on our site, I anticipate our Blog will offer a more enlighten discussion of politics.
Many newscasts now include updates on Bloggers and what they are writing on the day’s top stories and it could be you (all posts and comments on our Blog are broadcast globally via RSS feeds).
If you notice sections without editorial content, they are being set aside for those who registered and become members. When we get to know you, we will change your status and allow you to submit articles at first and eventually to write posts (see About page on Blog).
Your e-mail will never be sold and the password you receive comes directly from WordPress, a group a very talented people, worldwide, who offer this tremendous Blog software at no cost!!!
The site has links to government officials, historical sites, the best sources of free information on the web and to US and World news outlets. It’s interesting and informative to read what foreign journalists are writing about us.
Some Thoughts on the 2006 Election
Americans went to the polls, cast their ballots and finally spoke. The Democrats had a great night and recaptured the Congress, picking up some 29 seats (19 from incumbents - 10 were open seats).
The Democrats also took control of the Senate. They accomplished by making the election of referendum on the war, the president, and by the running more moderate and conservative candidates(sounds like moving towards the center to me).
Yet, the election was the worst I’ve witnessed and we still reelected 93 percent of Congress. Negative ads were lewd, augmented with smear campaigns and character assassinations like Genghis Khan's Conquests and the pillaging of Asia and Europe.
American politics is extremely bitter, malicious and vindictive. I’m distraught over our political discourse and often ashamed of the political parties and their leadership. But, it seems politicians do have one thing in common; they use fear to motivate the masses. How often have you heard them use the word “Crisis?”
Fear is a powerful human motivator and a much stronger incentive than happiness, love or peace. People are more apt to take action when fear is the driving force. When you are at work, does your boss rely on fear or love to motivate the staff?
Far worst, politicians used fear to divide Americans. It’s like the song, united we stand - divided we fall. We cannot sit on the sidelines any longer and let division become the future of these“United” States.
We allowed politicians to lead us, like dogs on leashes, while they continue to build walls of division among the people. The time of American division is over and this is our quest at A Conservative Centrist - uniting Americans.
If you have time to watch TV, read the sports and business sections, or check out the latest in fashion, then you have time and the civic responsibility to stay informed.
No one should ever vote based on emotion or what someone told them. It may be your right, but it might explain why 98 percent of the members in Congress are reelected, with approval ratings well below 30 percent.
Some will doubt this, especially after the Democrat's tremendous victory. Yet, they won 29 seats out of 435 or nearly 7 percent, but only 19 were incumbent seats (about 4.4%). So, even with the great democratic victory, Americans still reelected over 93 percent of the members in Congress.
Finally, some have asked why we waited until after the election to launch the site. It is my opinion that this election was a warm-up for 2008 and I’ll go on the limb to predict that politics will be a hotter topic over the next few years. So, our timing is not too bad.
